EcoFairfield Festival Countdown!
Fair on the Square!April 20th, 2013
The fun starts at noon with vendors, music, and carnival activities, and an opening keynote address by renowned agricultural economist and Fairfield resident John Ikerd at 1:30pm. This free family oriented event provides education on sustainability while celebrating our community. Festivities include an eco art contest and organic dessert competition, and the Fairfield’s Got Talent Show at 4pm. Come out and bring the family for a fun and educational day on the square!
EcoJam Fashion Show 2013!
Up-cycled & organic lines by Fairfield's own Fashionistas!April 20th, 2013
The EcoJam team and EcoFairfield are excited to present a night full of organic and up-cycled designs by local designers, music, and raffle prizes! The first half of this event will be family-friendly and include children's clothes, opening with a dance performance by Apetura Metis and concluding with a line honoring MUM sustainable living alumni Darnetta Lee, who was an inspiration to many in Fairfield and passed away this spring. The second half allows designers full artistic expression. The second half culminates with designs by local favorite Darjaal Craul, recently returned to the fashion scene!
The event will be DJed by Daniel Starr and catered by Green Gourmet. Get there early--seats fill up fast!
Ticket prices: $12 general, $10 students with ID, $7 after intermission (second half only) Kids 12 and under free

Tree Planting & Garlic Mustard Pulling at Chautauqua ParkApril 21st, 2013
The City of Fairfield, Fairfield Parks and Rec, Pence Elementary, Hometown Rewards, Leopold Group, Fairfield Volunteer Center, and EcoFairfield are pleased to announce a day of tree planting and mustard pulling at Chautauqua Park!
Inviting all volunteers to enjoy a day in the park planting trees and weeding the invasive but tasty garlic mustard.
Tree Planting Shifts:
10 am-12 noon
1 pm--3 pm
3 pm--5pm
Garlic mustard pulling with Laura McCormick, local field botanist extraordinaire, will take place during the same shift schedule.
This event is sponsored in part by a generous grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. It is free and open to the public.

Money & LifeApril 14th, 2013
"Money & Life" is seeking to bring light to the shadow money has cast on our lives and asking a powerful question: "Can our relationship with money be transformed to serve our highest capacities and values?" Fairfield's own Stuart Valentine, Scott Morris, and Graham Torpey are featured in the film, as well as their "HERO Rewards" program.
Afterward, there will be a town hall-style discussion led by Laila Sadat-Sharifi (project lead on Fairfield's upcoming timebank program) on related programs in Fairfield and what people can do to get involved.

Fairfield Greener Pastures ProjectApril 22nd, 2013
Fairfield Greener Pastures Project is a student organized demonstration and research project aiming to strengthen local agriculture for our farmers and the environment. We want to share the benefits of a simple soil conditioning method with the Fairfield community by revitalizing local pastures and hayfields. This project is meant to inspire community agricultural advancements and display the effects of this treatment across our county.
We are asking for pasture owners and hay growers to allow us to offer them a one time application of a custom, environmentally friendly soil conditioning. This is keyline subsoil plowing with compost extract root treatment. It is designed to break soil compaction, curb water runoff, and restore soil biology bringing a healthier crop and landscape.
We are performing our operation with sponsorships and donations so we may have a greater outreach. The Kickoff and Fundraiser presentations will explain our mission, objectives, and how you can help the project. Our goal is to treat up to 2000 acres of Jefferson County pastures and hayfields; ending in Dec. 2014. We ask for land owners and potential sponsors to join us on the 19th and 22nd to hear more.
We are currently being supported by; EcoFairfield, MUM, Sierra Club Leopold Group, Applied Soil Technologies Lab, and Prairie Song Farm, and many local community members.
